Getting to Dortmund Campus

The Campus of TU Dortmund university is located between the city centers of Dortmund (in the North-East) and Bochum (in the West).

By Plain

Dortmund has a tiny international airport, but a lot more international flights leave at Düsseldorf, which is about 40 minutes by train.

By Train

TU Dortmund has its own train station ("Dortmund Universität"). From there communter trains (S-Bahn) leave for the Dortmund Main Railway station (“Dortmund Hauptbahnhof”) and the Düsseldorf Main Railway station via Bochum, Essen and Düsseldorf Airport every 20 or 30 minutes. From the Dortmund Main Railway station, the easiest way to get to camps is usually the S-Bahn (line S1) that takes you directly to campus.

Find your connection at www.bahn.de and use “Dortmund Universität” as your destination.

Another possibility of getting from Dortmund city center to the university is by bus and underground. The underground line U42 heading "Hombruch" leaves at “Reinoldikirche”, “Stadtgarten”, “Städtische Kliniken” and “Möllerbrücke” (but not at the main station! From the main station, you can take all underground routs bound for the station “Stadtgarten” using the underground routes U41, U45, U 47 and U49. At "Stadtgarten" you switch trams.). You get out of the U42 at “An der Palmweide”. From the bus station (just across the road) busses bound for the TU Dortmund leaves every ten minutes (445, 447 and 462).

Another possibility is to take the U43 or U44 to the station “Dortmund Wittener Straße”. It stops at “Kampstraße” and “Westentor” but not at the main station. Switch at Wittener Straße to the Bus No. 447 and get off at “Dortmund Universität S”.

For individual timetable information about public passenger traffic see the homepage of the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (that is the regional public transportation system).

By Car

The campus of TU Dortmund is situated close to the motorway intersection Dortmund West, where the Sauerlandlinie A 45 (Frankfurt-Dortmund) crosses the Ruhrschnellweg B 1 / A 40. From here the university is connected to the west with the motorway network of the Ruhr Area and beyond that to the regions of the Lower Rhine and the Netherlands. In the eastern direction the B 1 leads through Dortmund to Unna, where there is a connection with the motorways leading to Bremen, Hannover/Berlin and Kassel. In the north, the A 45 ends after a few kilometres at the A 2, leading to the Kamener Kreuz and in the other direction to Oberhausen. In the Westhofener Kreuz, south of the university, the A 45 crosses the A 2, leading to Bremen and Köln.

The best motorway exit you find on the A 45 is "Dortmund-Eichlinghofen" (closer to the Campus Süd) and on the B 1 / A 40 "Dortmund-Barop (No. 44)" (closer to the Campus Nord).
